Charlton Athletic: Karl Robinson to begin raid of MK Dons

Charlton Athletic are expected to make a move for MK Dons’ goalkeeper, David Martins, who will be released at the end of the season, according to the South London Press. Charlton could also make possible moves for Ben Reeves and Darren Potter.

Karl Robinson is expected to be interested in making a move for Milton Keynes’ Dons goalkeeper, David Martins, at the end of the season. The Buckinghamshire side announced in April, that Martins would be one of the several players being released by Robbie Neilson in the summer, which means he could join the Addicks on a free transfer.

The number 1 position at the red south-east London outfit is understood to be one of the highest priority spots to fill in the upcoming window. Last summer, Russell Slade, secured Declan Rudd from Norwich City on a one-year loan deal.

However, Rudd has returned to the Canaries, now the League One campaign has come to a conclusion. Where he will be next season is still unclear, but the East Anglian side has extended his contract by another 12 months – whether or not they decide to loan Rudd out once again remains to be seen.

Robinson has made clear on several occasions that he would like to secure the services of Rudd for next season but is obviously cautious about hedging all his bets in securing Rudd for the upcoming campaign. If the Charlton manager is unable to guarantee Rudd in due course, then Martins will most likely be Charlton’s number one come August.

After Robinson’s extensive six-year period at the Buckinghamshire outfit, it is inevitable that Charlton will now be linked with several players from Milton Keynes’ Dons, many of those players, the former MK Dons manager recruited himself.

In January, Charlton was linked on several occasions with Ben Reeves, who contract is understood to conclude at the end of the season. Despite failing in the winter transfer window, Robinson could definitely be keen on pushing ahead with getting Reeves to join Charlton on a free transfer, putting pen to paper early on in the window.

It was also announced in April, that Darren Potters would be released by MK Dons in the summer. A player again which knows what it means to play under Robinson, and the Charlton manager sung his praises when the Buckinghamshire outfit visited The Valley this season, winning 2 – 0.

Robinson is expected to complete an overhaul at the red south-east London outfit in the summer. It will be interesting to witness how many of his former players from MK Dons, will join Charlton for the 2017/18 League One campaign.
