Bristol Rovers: Darrell Clarke delighted over defender signing new offer

Bristol Rovers boss, Darrell Clarke has given defender, James Clarke a new deal with the League One club.

Clarke first signed with The Pirates in 2015 from a free transfer at Woking. Since his move, he has made a total of 55 league appearances. He played under Darrell during his spell at Salisbury City.

He spoke about his new deal, “I had no hesitation in signing a new contract with the club as I have thoroughly enjoyed the past two years.”

“I really think that we have the nucleus of a squad that can be challenging strongly for a top six position next season.”

Darrell said that he is “delighted that James has agreed to stay with us.”

“he has been a valued, and popular member of the squad since he first joined us and I am looking forward to working with him again next season.”

Why do I think he deserves a spot at Bristol Rovers?

He is a key member to the squad. He’s versatile in defence and to have the ability to play anywhere at the back is handy for [Darrell] Clarke when making his teamsheet for upcoming games.

He joined the club when we made it back into the football league and his contributions alongside the rest of the squad helped The Pirates achieve automatic promotion and has helped to finish this season in the top 10.

I think he’s been a great addition to Darrell Clarke’s side and will continue to show his efforts next season. We challenge 6 new clubs such as Plymouth Argyle, Portsmouth and Rotherham United and I think with the strength of our current squad, we can work our way to the top 6.
