Presenting the inside scoop on the latest Football League news

Wigan Athletic will not be able to tempt Charlton striker despite previously trying

Charlton Atheltic forward, Josh Magennis, has stated that he will not be leaving in the Summer when speaking to the South London Press, despite alleged interest from Wigan Athletic in January.

Northern Ireland international, Josh Magennis, was a signing that joined last August under Russell Slade, and is one of the most successful signings of the previous season, alongside Ricky Holmes. Magennis joined the Addicks from Kilmarnock, and has netted an impressive ten goals, and attained seven assists in his first season of English football.

Magennis is known for his strong ability up front as a physical force, the closest replacement Charlton fans have found satisfaction in since Roland Duchatelet sold Yann Kermorgant to Bournemouth, back in 2014.

According to the South London Press, Wigan Athletic was interested and made an approach for the Addicks striker, back in the January transfer window, around the same time that Charlton was supposedly interested in poaching fellow Northern Ireland international, Will Grigg.

However, Magennis has made clear to the South London Press that he is settled and will not be leaving, which rules out any chance of Wigan Athletic trying to sign the striker in the summer window.

“I’m under contract. There is no question of leaving.

“My family are settled, my kids are settled in school and most importantly I’m enjoying my football and the club treat me fantastically. The gaffer has a trust in me. He knows I’m willing to put in a shift. I’ve always been told if you work hard enough then stuff will happen for me. I know goals will come. That isn’t me being cocky or arrogant. I always have complete confidence in my own ability.”
