Charlton striker discusses importance of Ricky Holmes

In an interview with KentLive, Charlton Athletic’s striker Josh Magennis has revealed what it is like to play alongside the club’s player of the year, Ricky Holmes.

The Northern Ireland international, who has been capped by his country 25 times, said that he has enjoyed playing alongside Holmes, and was quick to say that there was an excellent understanding between the two of them.

Holmes was voted as supporters’ player of the year last week, winning an astonishing 60% of the votes in his debut season at the club.

“Nine times out of 10, when I win a header I know that he’s going to get on the end of it,” Magennis said, speaking to KentLive.

“We seem to have a good relationship and he’s given me a lot of assists this season.”
Holmes moved to The Valley last summer, joining from fellow Sky Bet League One side Northampton Town after he had handed in a transfer request.
The 29-year-old midfielder has scored 12 goals in the league this season for the Addicks as well as six assists, and Magennis has said that the club needs to sign more players similar to Holmes.
“Him playing in the team is absolutely brilliant and we need players like him at this club. Not only for where the club wants to go but for individual players to be playing week in, week out, with players of a high standard, even in training. It’s then up to you to bring your standards up again,” he said.
