Ipswich Town could be about to make another move for Rotherham United’s Danny Ward in the summer according to a report from The Green ‘Un.
During the January transfer window, reports suggested that Ipswich were very interested in signing Ward alongside many of their Sky Bet Championship rivals. However while Rotherham were willing to sell their star if they got the right offer, it never came in with chairman Tony Stewart saying they turned down bids of £2m and Ward stayed at the New York Stadium for the rest of the season though was unable to do anything as the Millers were relegated to Sky Bet League One.
And with that relegation happening, it turns out rejecting some of those offers may have been a gamble that has failed. Ward’s contract is set to expire in the summer and while there is a chance he will sign a new deal with the club, it is almost certain that he will want to continue to test himself in the Championship after a personally successful season where he scored 12 goals.
And this is where Ipswich hope to come in and sign Ward on their second attempt. Their head coach Mick McCarthy has already made it clear he will be reshaping the squad after a disappointing season and Ward would be an ideal target. Ipswich will not have a massive budget going into next season but because Ward will be available on a free, they would be able to get one of the bargains of the summer.
