Barrow, Wigan Athletic learned a lot from Brighton and Hove Albion loss

Wigan Athletic learned a lot from Brighton and Hove Albion loss

Wigan Athletic caretaker head coach Graham Barrow has told Wigan Today they learned a lot from their loss to Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Latics had gone on a decent little run of form over the last few weeks, picking up two wins in a row which has helped them in their battle against relegation. However they came up against the unstoppable force at the weekend as they traveled down to the AMEX Stadium to play Brighton and the game would go as expected. The Seagulls beat Wigan 2-1 as they sealed their promotion to the Premier League, though there was a nervy end to the game where the Latics piled some pressure on.

Now Wigan are five points off safety as they look to avoid dropping to Sky Bet League One and with a tough set of games ahead of them, including play-off chases Leeds United. But Barrow is confident, saying they learned a lot from Brighton during their loss to them.

He said: “I’m not put off by Monday, because I knew it would be tough,”

“And there’s still all to play for as far as I’m concerned.”

“It was probably the wrong game at the wrong time, with what it meant to them.”

“But I think we also learned a lot about a few of our players if I’m honest.”

“I just look ahead and maybe Reading and Leeds could already be in the play-offs by the time we play them.”

“I’m not saying that will be necessarily make them any easier.”

“But if we can get over the hurdle that is Cardiff, it gives us a great chance.”
