Ipswich Town set to sell players in the summer

Ipswich Town head coach Mick McCarthy has told The Green ‘Un that he is set to get rid of many of his players during the summer.

The Tractor Boys have had a disappointing year as instead of challenging for the Sky Bet Championship play-offs like initially hoped, they have been stuck in mid-table mediocrity and haven’t looked close to the team that placed in the top six just two years ago. This even led to pressure from the fans with many demanding that McCarthy himself go.

However it seems like he will be staying, though not much of the squad will stay with him. Plenty of their key players are out of contract in the summer and their goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski is also being coveted by some of their rivals. And now McCarthy has said that he will be clearing out some of the players in his current squad as he looks to reshape the team ahead of next season.

He said: “(Planning ahead) has been tentative because we didn’t know if we were safe. I’ll sit down with (owner) Marcus (Evans) now to discuss what we want to do, what he wants to do and what I want to do. Hopefully we can come up with something.”

“There is a real opportunity to freshen it up because there are a lot of players out of contract and quite a few on loan – do they want to stay, do we want them, can we sign them? There’ll be all those things in the mix.”

“We’ll be losing a few players.”
