Grant Ward not sure if he will celebrate against Rotherham United

Ipswich Town’s Grant Ward has told The Green ‘Un that he is unsure whether or not he would celebrate against Rotherham United if he scored against them on Saturday.

The 22-year-old midfielder spent last season on loan with the Millers and has a great year as he helped them avoid being relegated to Sky Bet League One, something that did happen without him this season. During that year, he was a regular for Rotherham and was able to win their Young Player of the Season award.

He will be making his return to the New York Stadium this weekend as a Ipswich player as his new side prepare to pile on more misery for the already relegated side. But with Ward enjoying his time on Rotherham so much, he has admitted that he hasn’t decided if he will celebrate if he scores, something many players refrain from doing when against their former side.

He said: “I think it depends on the goal,”

“I probably wouldn’t celebrate just out of respect.”

“I enjoyed it there, it was a great experience, and I played a lot of games,”

“I was sad to see them go (down) this season, but I could see them struggling a bit because when I was there, we struggled, and did a end-of-season miracle (under Neil Warnock) to stay up.”

“I don’t really know how we stayed up (that season), but they’re always around that area and it is a bit of an uphill battle so it’s hard for them.”
