Never was there a more befitting match than Leeds United needing that bit o’ steel in midfield and bringing in the uncompromising Vinnie Jones to Elland Road.
The 11-cap Welsh international arrived in LS11 from Wimbledon at the opening of the 1989 summer transfer window, coming from Wimbledon for a fee reputed to be around the £650,000 mark.
In truth, Jones was only at Elland Road for the one season, Leeds’ 1989/90 league campaign, before moving on to Sheffield United. But it is safe to say that the combative defensive midfielder endeared himself to the terraces with his no-nonsense displays whilst pulling wearing the shirt – even if he did stop short on grabbing opponent’s testicles whilst at the club.
Jones may have left the club in 1990, but the club never really left Jones as the now-Hollywood actor is often seen on Twitter commenting on the club where he only stayed one season but where his presence still lingers.
That’s what it was like after last night’s late, late draw against Newcastle United – Leeds pulling level in the 95th minute courtesy of Chris Wood’s 25th goal of the season. Jones took to Twitter (below) to offer his congratulations to the side, inevitably drawing comments from Leeds United fans.
Oh what fun it is to see #leeds get a point away from home 👏👏👏 good point boys

It was a great result for the Whites, something that Vinnie Jones was quick to pick up on and Leeds fans equally quick to reply to.
