Liverpool join chase for Fulham young prospect

Liverpool have become the third Premier League club to show interest in Fulham sensation, Ryan Sessegnon. Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are also on the radar.

The 16-year-old wonderkid has made 26 appearances for the Cottagers, producing 3 assists and has scored a total of 6 goals, including two against promotion chasing Newcastle United.

After being called up for England’s U16 squad from 2015, he has since played for the U17 squad and the U19’s. He scored for the Three Lions in the UEFA U19 Championship Qualifiers against Luxemburg. He has currently made 22 appearances and 3 goals overall in his international career.

Sessegnon is a versatile player and is usually played as a left-back. However, he has been played as a left midfielder, comfortable in either position.

Fulham is keen to sell their young prospect and is even more likely to if the club achieves promotion. Jurgen Klopp believes that he [Sessegnon] could make a difference to his Liverpool side as a left-back. Spurs and Manchester City have been watching the teenager throughout the course of this season. Everton is also eager to sign Sessegnon’s brother, Steven who plays for the U18 academy.

Personal response: would the move to Anfield be good for the player?

I think that going to Liverpool would definitely give him a new experience within his football career. Judging by his performance this season, he would fit well into a Premier League club and it would definitely put him in the spotlight. According to The Star, Klopp said that Sessegnon would be Liverpool’s long-term solution, which gives us some insight that he would have a chance to play in the first team – which at the age of 16 is remarkable.

He’ll become one of those star players that you hear about in the news like Marcus Rashford or Gabriel Jesus. Both of those players play in a different position to Sessegnon, but to score 6 goals in 26 appearances in the first team highlights that the 16-year-old is talented and is sure to keep that up throughout his career.
