Huddersfield Town set to hand former England boss a job

Huddersfield Town are set to make former England manager Steve McClaren their new director of football according to a report from The Sun.

The Terriers lost their previous director of football Stuart Webber when he decided to leave for Norwich City in their boardroom shake up. This means the West Yorkshire side are on the look out for a replacement and they could be set to make a very surprising appointment.

McClaren is currently without a job after he was sacked by Derby County just a few months into his second reign at the club and many assumed that even though he has been doing poorly with his last few clubs that he would continue to pursue a career in management. However he could going to the office above the manager as this report suggests he is set to take the director of football job at Huddersfield and replace Webber.

For Huddersfield the move would make some sense. Over his years of management, McClaren has been able to pick up a lot of contacts having been in charge at the clubs across the world such as Middlesbrough, FC Twente and Wolfsburg and could use these to help the club when they deal with some of these teams.

And there would also be a view for the future with this move. Huddersfield will be hoping to seal their promotion to the Premier League this season but while their head coach David Wagner has been very impressive this season, he has no experience of the top tier of English football. While McClaren’s reputation may be in the dirt now, he could be used to give advice to Wagner should they get promoted this season.
