Gillingham sack kit man after he forgets to bring club strip to match

Gillingham have sacked their kit man Bob Lewin after he forgot to bring the away strip with them to their away match at MK Dons according to a report from The Independent.

The Gills traveled to Buckinghamshire for their match against MK Dons at the weekend but while the players and the coaching staff were there, their kits weren’t. They did realise this in time though and the kits eventually made their way to Stadium:MK, but it was a close run thing as they only made it into the ground with 15 minutes to go. If the kits hadn’t arrived on time, they were ready to wear a makeshift strip for this Sky Bet League One match.

But while many people won’t have even realised that there was crisis going on under the stands, the man in charge of the kits has paid for his mistake. According to this report, kit man Bob Lewin has been relieved of his duties and the club’s official Twitter account that Malcolm Stedman has come in as his replacement until the end of the season. Mr Stedman is well known at the club as he was the kit man until the end of last season when he retired.

Despite the fact the kits only arrived in the nick of time, Gillingham would eventually play out an entertaining match with MK Dons though they suffered heartbreak when Dean Lewington scored a late winner against them, even though the Buckinghamshire side were down to ten men at that point.
