Nottingham Forest are ready to play the Mark Warburton style

Nottingham Forest’s Jamie Ward has told the Nottingham Post that he believes the team are ready to play under the style of play that new head coach Mark Warburton enforces.

After having a few months of playing under Gary Brazil after the sacking of Philippe Montanier, Forest finally got their new manager when they appointed Mark Warburton as their new boss, just a short while after his acrimonious exit from Rangers. He got a baptism of fire to begin with as well as his first game was against their East Midlands rivals Derby County. They played well in that game as well, with Forest coming away with a 2-2 draw.

He is yet to take charge of his second game due to his international break, but some fans have wondered if the current squad will be able to adjust quickly enough to Warburton’s different style of play, especially with the club still worried about being relegated. But Ward has said that the players are good enough to play in the way that Warburton demands.

He said: “Football is always nice when you play it the right way. You don’t enjoy it as much when you play a game of kick and chase. Sometimes you have to mix it up and do the ugly side of things,”

“But the manager has set his stall out when it comes to how he wants us to play and do things, and I believe we have the players to do it.”

“In the first half against Derby, we were fantastic. We looked like a completely different team to what I have seen since I have been here.”

“In the second half, we tired a little bit and got a little frustrated. But you have to take the pluses out of it. We showed good character to come back, and we started and finished the game well. Now the challenge is just to work on the middle bit as well.”

“But you have to enjoy the kind of football he wants us to play.”
