Leeds United are closer to a deal for signing Linus Wahlqvist as his club Norkopping have admitted they will be forced to sell him in the summer according to a report from Swedish publication SVT.
Wahlqvist has been a target for Leeds for some time, with reports suggesting that he may make the move to Elland Road back in the summer. Those rumours said that Leeds would end up paying £900K for the defender, though they ended up missing out on him. They would add a Swedish contingent despite that though, with Marcus Antonsson and Pontus Jansson joining the club.
And while the West Yorkshire side may have been disappointed that they missed out in the summer, it looks like they will have the ideal opportunity to sign him this time around as it appears he will be available. Reports from Sweden have suggested that his current club Norkopping have already factored in his sale into their accounts and they will be allowing him to leave the club in the next few months.
However the question for Leeds would be if they were still interested in Wahlqvist in the summer when he becomes available. They were in a completely different situation just a few months ago as they were desperate to reform a poor defence, though their recruitment this season has seen that back four change into one of the best in the Sky Bet Championship. And with promotion being likely for them this year, the Swedish international may no longer be good enough to play for them.
