Blackburn Rovers: Top five performers this season

Blackburn Rovers have had a mixed season to say the least.

The season started with the appointment of former Bolton Wanderers and Burnley manger Owen Coyle, which was met with disappointment from fans.  Blackburn then looked like they would be relegated this season, spending most of their time in the relegation zone.

However Coyle was finally sacked last month and Tony Mowbray was appointed.  The Scot is has five draws and two wins to show from his first seven games in charge of Rovers but has achieved much more than this.  Fans and players alike now seem to believe that the club can stay in the Championship this season, with the team showing their never-say-die attitude in recent games.

With eight games left to play, Blackburn are in the relegation zone by only one point.  It may not be a season to remember, but avoiding relegation would mean everything to the Blackburn fans.

Here we take a look at Blackburn’s top five performers this season, based on stats according to WhoScored.  The ratings are based on goals, assists, cards, shots, passing success, aerial duels won and Man of the Match awards.  Only players with five starts or more this season have been included.

Unfortunately this means that in-form loan signing Lucas Joao misses out on the top five, but he has a very impressive average rating of 7.12.
