On Tuesday, London experienced a terrorist attack which shocked the world. One of the fatalities as a result of the attack was PC Keith Palmer, who was allegedly a life-long Charlton Athletic fan. Fellow Addicks took to Twitter to pay their respects to their fellow Charlton fan.
The news of the police officer which sacrificed his life outside the Palace of Westminster to protect democracy hit the country deeply with sorrow, despair, and great sadness. However, late Tuesday night, it was revealed that for Charlton fans, this fatality was closer to home than originally thought.
PC Keith Palmer may have spent his professional life protecting the lives of London’s citizens. However, on the weekends he traveled to The Valley, and sung the likes of Valley Floyd Road and backed the boys in red.
This is not the first time, the Charlton community and family have experienced loss through a terrorist attack. The British soldier, who was brutally murdered in Woolwich in 2013, Lee Rigby, was also a Charlton supporter. Lee Rigby was honoured and received tribute by the Charlton fans and the official club. Hopefully, the same service will be provided to the fallen hero, police officer, and Charlton fan, Keith Palmer.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by Keith Palmer’s passing. No doubt that his name will live on within the Charlton community like Lee Rigby’s has.
Just found out the police officer who was stabbed and died today was a Charlton fan. Rest easy Keith, The Valley will miss you. #cafc
