Brighton midfielder sent home from international duty

According to The Argus, Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Beram Kayal has been forced to withdraw from the Israel international squad. The former Celtic man was set to start against Spain on Friday nigh tin Gijon, but illness means that he has had to withdraw.

Kayal’s Brighton teammate Tom Hemed, still remains with the group that faces the huge challenge in a few days time. However, Israel being without one of their best players makes their task even harder. Kayal has recently enjoyed a run in the Brighton team after successfully recovering from injury. The 28-year-old has started the Seagulls’ last three matches.

To be specific, it is a throat injection and high temperature which has led to the medical team of the Israeli national team deciding to pull Kayal from the squad. Doing so of course reduces the chance of such a condition spreading amongst the group, whilst giving Kayal the best possible chance to properly recover himself. Brighton are next in action on April 1st at home to in-form Blackburn Rovers.

It has certainly been a frustrating campaign for Kayal, who made the move to Brighton in 2014. He has made a total of 18 appearances this season so far. After starting the season strongly, following the September 24th home victory over Barnsley, he did not feature again until the January 7th win over MK Dons in the Emirates FA Cup because of a serious injury. Hopefully this illness won’t side-track him too much as he is certainly an important player for Hughton as they look to get over the line and into the promised land of the Premier League next season.
