Tony Stewart denies he plans to sell Rotherham United

Rotherham United chairman Tony Stewart has told the Sheffield Star that there is no plans to sell the club despite some social media reports.

The Millers have had a dreadful season and are looking almost certain to be relegated from the Sky Bet Championship. They sit at the bottom of the Sky Bet Championship with just 17 points, 24 points off 21st placed Burton Albion. And their spot in Sky Bet League One for next season could be confirmed should they lose to Fulham in their first game after the international break.

This has led to some reports that Stewart, who helped secure the building of the New York Stadium after they banished to Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield and was owner as they rose from Sky Bet League Two to the Sky Bet Championship, was planning to sell up in the summer and allow someone else to try and get them promoted back to the Championship. However he has denied these reports and has said he will be at Rotherham for a long time yet.

He said: “Will it be me and my team in charge again next season? Absolutely,”

“Rotherham have never been without money under me. What Rotherham haven’t always done is invest it wisely in their future potential stars. In League Two, we were in the top two or three spenders, in League One, we were in the top five.”

“It’s not been about the want of more investment, it’s been about the want of wise investment. At the end of the day, I don’t need the bank or outside investment.”

“We don’t have a spiraling debut like some other clubs. We live within our means. We’ve shown in my eight and a half years that we can get to heights like the Championship. What we need to do in the future is ensure that when we get into the Championship we can retain it.”
