Danny Batth praises character of Wolves side after comeback win

Wolves’ Danny Batth has praised the character of his team to the Birmingham Mail after their comeback win against Brentford.

When Fosun International took over the club in the summer and instantly decided to invest a lot of money into them, it was expected that they would challenge for promotion. However they are instead at the other end of the table and are on their second manager of the season, Paul Lambert, and reports are circulating that they may look to replace him during the summer.

But even though they are now involved in a relegation battle, there was a huge boost of confidence when they were able to beat Brentford on Tuesday night. They went behind due to a Maxime Colin goal but rallied in the last ten minutes with goals from Matt Doherty and Helder Costa giving them a great comeback win. And Batth has said that has boosted the confidence of everyone in the team and that they are ready to go on a good run of form.

He said: “It was an excellent win after falling behind to their only real chance of the game,”

“That’s been the story of our season so far, we’ve often been on top and had some sucker punches.”

“We felt the way the game went we were the stronger team and, if we kept resolute at the back, then we’d eventually put a chance away so we always felt we were in the game.”

“It was a matter of breaking through the resilient Brentford back four.”

“They got deeper and deeper and the space in behind became smaller and smaller so we had to play in front of them for a while and pick them off.”

“All the boys dug in really deep and showed great character. We need to show more of that this season, we haven’t shown enough of it. To show that resilience was excellent.’’
