Carlos Carvalhal slapped with £2,000 fine following sending off at Aston Villa

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal has received a £2,000 fine after admitting a charge of improper conduct according to a report from the Sheffield Telegraph.

When Wednesday’s match against Aston Villa was finely poised at 1-0 to the Villains, Vincent Sasso was sent off for going in on a player with both feet. Carvalhal on the sidelines was angered by this and was also sent to the stands by the referee, though he said in the press conference after the match it was for leaving the technical area rather than him making any untowards comments about the decision to the officials.

Later on in the week, the FA decided to charge Carvalhal with improper conduct and instead of contesting it, the Portuguese manager has decided to accept the charge and has now been fined £2,000. Despite getting hit in the wallet though, this will be seen as good news for the Owls as it means that he will be able to be on the touchline for Friday’s crunch match against promotion rivals Reading tomorrow night.

An FA statement about the acceptance of the charge said: “Carlos Carvalhal has been fined £2,000 after he admitted an FA misconduct charge and accepted the standard penalty.”

“The Sheffield Wednesday manager’s behaviour in or around the 48th minute of the game against Aston Villa on 11 March 2017 amounted to improper conduct.”

Now Wednesday will be looking to put this incident behind them as they concentrate on their upcoming games, especially the one on Friday night which sees them face Reading.
