Brighton: Seagulls player swoops in for PFA award

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Tomer Hemed has today been awarded with the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month Award for February.

The big Israeli striker has been in fine form over the last month, notching up five goals in five games. This has taken his total tally for the season to 13.

It’s fair to say Hemed has been in and out of Chris Hughton’s side this season so far but his contribution to their promotion push over the last month, including hugely important goals against the likes of Huddersfield Town and Ipswich, has done the striker no harm in his attempt to earn back a consistent starting place.

It was all enough to see Hemed receive 8,390 votes from the public and win the award. Fulham’s Tom Cairney finished in second place with 5,412 votes with Preston trickster Aiden McGeady finishing in third with 2,658 votes.

Brentford’s Jota, Cardiff’s Kenneth Zohore and Norwich striker Cameron Jerome were all also shortlisted for the award.

Those nominated for the award were picked by a panel which included pundits Paul Merson and Peter Beagrie, general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Mike Riley and chairman of the Football Supporters’ Federation Malcolm Clarke.

Hemed’s award follows on from Luton’s Danny Hylton and Millwall’s Jake Cooper who won the same award for League Two and League One earlier in the week, respectively.

Brighton faced Derby yesterday at the AMEX Stadium where, the Seagulls emerged as 3-0 victors with Hemed coming on in the 79th minute of the game with the result already assured.
