Derby County’s Darren Bent lashed out at his own fans on Twitter last night but ended up suffering a backlash of his own.
The Rams were doing well in their home fixture against Preston North End, taking the lead in the 50th minute thanks to a goal from Matej Vydra. However Preston fought back and got themselves back into the game before sending the away fans into raptures when Tom Barkhuizen scored a 95th minute equaliser.
This caused anger from the Derby fans as they blamed the poor substitutions, with Abdoul Camara, Craig Bryson and Bent himself all coming on to try and secure the result. However they were unable to do this and would end up just getting the point after Barkhuizen’s equaliser.
The criticism obviously irked the former England international bent who would tweet the next day his irritation at the response, saying that the fans never failed to make him laugh.
So the substitutions are responsible for us conceding a late goal last night, some of these fans never fail to surprise me or make me laugh

However the Derby fans were angered by this, with the irritation of having a season they were looking forward to being a massive disappointment probably coming to the surface at the time, Many believed that as they paid for the tickets, and therefore Bent’s wages, they should be allowed any opinion they wanted even if it did annoy some of the players. Some also brought up the fact that they are not challenging for promotion like they expected before the start of the season.

Bent has now tweeted today after this incident, with his last post being in reaction to Barcelona’s stunning 6-1 win over PSG last night.
