Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has revealed that he is still debating on if he’ll offer a contract to centre back Chris Samba. The former Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park Rangers defender in currently on trial at Villa Park, appearing in a recent Under-23 game.

The 32-year-old, who was released from his contract at Greek Super League side Panathinaikos, is hoping to earn himself a deal at least until the end of the season with the Sky Bet Championship club. Samba is well-known to English supporters but it remains to be seen if the player will be making the move to Bruce’s side.

Samba appeared for the Villa Under-23 side against local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday night and there is every chance he could appear in another upcoming fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion next Monday. Following Tuesday’s away defeat at Huddersfield Town, Bruce stating he was still deciding on the future of Samba,

“I’ve got to sit down with him and his representative and see but there’s been nothing decided just yet.

“I watched Samba on Monday night. I’ve known him through Big Sam (Allardyce) and he’s wanted to come and train.

“There’s this notion that he’s on trial, it’s not really a trial as such.

“He wants to earn a contract and we’ve given him the platform to keep fit.

“We’ll see what happens over the next two weeks or so.”

Aston Villa are next in action this weekend when they entertain Sheffield Wednesday, before they travel to Wigan Athletic a week later. With Samba unattached, there is a chance he could earn himself a deal in the coming weeks and appear before the season ends on May 7th.
