Zero to hero – Mogga puts smiles on Rovers fans’ faces

New Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray is beginning to prove his doubters wrong after a positive start to his managerial spell with the club.

The 53-year-old Teessider was named Rovers boss last month after the club sacked former manager Owen Coyle following a poor run of results.

The overall initial reaction to Mowbray’s appointment was a negative one with many fans analysing whether their new boss would bring anything extra to the role than the qualities held by former boss Coyle. Many fans wanted a bright young manager such as out of work former Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett and the announcement of Mowbray was a hugely underwhelming one with the former Celtic and Middlesbrough boss having last struggled to make an impression with Sky Bet League One club Coventry City.

Despite the concerns surrounding Ewood Park, Mowbray is starting to build hope at Blackburn Rovers with the club winning two and drawing one of the three matches played under their new boss. A narrow 1-0 home win over Derby County in midweek was followed up by another single goal home victory over local rivals Wigan Athletic on Saturday and after looking to be relegation certainties for most of the season, Blackburn Rovers now find themselves in 20th position with the luxury of having a game in hand over the current bottom three.

Mowbray’s previous managerial role at Coventry City was always going to be a real tough one but his overall record in the Sky Bet Championship is good and securing second tier football at Ewood Park next season will be enough to bring smiles to the faces of long suffering Blackburn Rovers fans.
