Video: Leeds United boss Monk talks Birmingham, kits and his future

Leeds United face Birmingham City tomorrow under the glare of St Andrews lights and the watchful eyes of the Sky Sports cameras. The Whites are aiming for a win, and three points, that would further cement their Play-Off credentials.

Under Garry Monk Leeds have turned around a season that, with the opening half-a-dozen games, looked to be heading in the direction that previous seasons had – ending with manager dismissals. However, under Monk’s stewardship, which is the longest of the Cellino era, United have turned things with a relegation place swapped for one earned in the Play-Off places.

Since those darker opening days, Monk has succeeded in pushing his Leeds United vision to such an extent that the Whites really are looking definite Play-Off contenders and are also keeping pace, albeit a little behind, the current slingshot top two of Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion.

A win for Leeds will be another anchor point in securing a Play-Off pace, the three points leaving the Whites on 64 points with 11 games left to play. Over the past 17 seasons, an average of 74 points has been enough to secure at least a sixth-placed finish in the Championship.

During today’s press conference (above), Garry Monk spoke about a number of things including: his thoughts on TouchlineGate and his subsequent one-game dugout ban, selection issues and injuries ahead of Friday’s game and his own contract situation beyond this season.

In other news, Leeds United’s Good Friday fixture away at Newcastle United has been chosen for live Sky Sports broadcast with a new kick-off time of 7:45pm.
