Leeds United fans react on Twitter to vital Green save

It was a good result for Leeds United this afternoon against Sheffield Wednesday, Chris Wood’s 20th league goal of the campaign giving the Whites all three points.

The win, in front of a bumper 35,000+ crowd at Elland Road, gave Leeds the double over their South Yorkshire visitors and saw the home side open a three-point gap between themselves and visitors Wednesday.

The goal itself was from good movement down the left and a beautifully floated in cross from Gaetano Berardi, missed by the stretching head of the Wednesday defenders, to Chris Wood who controlled it and stabbed it past Keiren Westwood in the Wednesday goal.

However, if truth be told Leeds United fans will admit that their side were indebted to the penalty save by Rob Green when facing Wednesday new boy Jordan Rhodes (below).

After Souleymane Doukara had been harshly adjudged to have fouled Sam Hutchinson, with the Wednesday midfielder having a handful of the Leeds forward’s shirt and tumbling to the ground, Jordan Rhodes stepped up in front of a roaring Kop to take the spot kick.

His shot was low and to Rob Green’s left but was met by the Leeds keeper who tipped it on to the post, the ball bouncing out and to safety.

The save is burned in the memory for these Leeds United fans.

A hint of sarcasm here and more than a pointing finger of blame at certain Leeds fans who were critical of both players.

A tiny slice of humble pie eaten here by Leeds fan George, but he’s right about Green’s magnificence of late.

This Leeds sees the penalty save as more than just preserving a 1-0 lead, but as a portent for the run-in to the season’s end.

Bit extreme, but this Leeds fan is verbalising how most are feeling.

More fan love here for the man in Green.

The final word goes to journalist and Leeds United writer Phil Hay.

Will Leeds be able to sustain the results for a promotion push?
