Burton Albion’s Shaun Barker has told the Derby Telegraph that he is still appreciative of the support he got from the Derby County fans while he was at the club.
The 34-year-old defender signed for the Rams all the way back in 2009 when he moved from Blackpool and would soon become an integral part of the team, though injuries did hamper his time at the iPro Stadium. He would 105 appearances for the club and was given a testimonial at the club before he eventually departed last summer so he could join Burton.
Now though for the first time since leaving them, Barker will be making a return to Derby to play them with Burton in what should be an exciting Midlands derby. And he has decided to take the time to thank Derby fans for the support they gave him during his time at the club even though he believes he was not a natural talent.
He said: “I don’t think anyone in my career will say I’m a natural talent when it comes to football, but I’m honest, hard-working, always give my best and I like to defend.”
