Derby, Norwich and Sheffield United in chase to sign Exeter City star

Derby County, Norwich City and Sheffield United are all interested in signing Exeter City’s Ollie Watkins according to a report from The Sun via the Derby Telegraph.

The 21-year-old forward is in some of the best form of his career right now having already netted 11 times in 35 appearances. His form has only got better in recent months as he won the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month Award for January, despite there being plenty of paper talk that he could be moving to Aston Villa as a potential replacement for Jack Grealish.

But now after a few weeks of rest, the paper talk is back as several teams are plotting moves for Watkins when the season ends and the new transfer window opens. Derby County and Norwich City may both be hoping that they can break into the Sky Bet Championship play-off places so they can be promoted, they are planning for either scenario with staying in this league being the more realistic one. And with Watkins being a great talent they believe will be available for around £2m, they think he would be a great addition to their squads.

They look set to be joined in this race by Sky Bet League One leaders Sheffield United. Like the two Championship teams, their league status is not confirmed yet but they believe they will finally be promoted by the end of the year and by beating several promotion chasers to the signing of a top talent, they believe that by signing him they would make a statement they aren’t just in the Championship to make up the numbers.
