Bristol City’s fighting spirit will save them from relegation

Bristol City’s David Cotterill has said to the club website that their fighting spirit will stop them from being involved in the battle against relegation.

The Robins have had two tough games in a row, with them relinquishing a 3-0 lead in the game against Derby County while on Valentines Day they were up against promotion chasing Leeds United. It was always going to be a game where it would be tricky for them to win and it went that way with goals from Chris Wood and Pablo Hernandez giving Leeds a 2-0 lead.

However in the second half following Hernandez’s goal, Bristol City took complete control of the game and looked like they might be able to stage a comeback. However while they did score, with Milan Djuric getting on the score sheet, it was way too late to make an impact and they would leave West Yorkshire without any points.

But Cotterill saw plenty of hope in that performance and believes that if they continue to play like that, they won’t get pulled into a relegation battle.

He said: “In the last two games we’ve played against two of the top eight teams who are pushing for promotion,”

“We haven’t played badly but the result is the most important thing at this time of year.”
“A lot of teams can say it’s easy to play well when you’re 2-0 down, which it is, because the pressure’s off.”
“But we still had chances and maybe should’ve got something out of the game.”
“Flinty has hit the crossbar and Milan has had a couple of chances before we got the late goal, so it’s good that we can keep fighting right to the end.”
“Hopefully that will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season.”
