Confirmation that Nottingham Forest lose key player for rest of the season

Nottingham Forest manager Gary Brazil has confirmed that goalkeeper Stephen Henderson is set to miss the rest of the Sky Bet Championship season. The former Charlton Athletic stopped suffered an Achilles injury in the 5-1 defeat to Norwich City on Saturday.

Brazil, who was recently handed the top job at the City Ground for the rest of the campaign, was forced off inside 25 minutes of the heavy loss at Carrow Road, with youngster Jordan Smith coming on in his place. Brazil confirmed the news of Henderson’s injury at his pre-match press briefing ahead of Tuesday night’s clash against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Serbian international Vladimir Stojkovic is the man expected to come into the team for the remainder of the campaign, certainly initially, even though he wasn’t named on the bench on Saturday. Brazil however did confirm that ‘Hendo’ will soon be having an operation,

“It’s not good for Henderson.

“He is having an operation on his Achilles and it looks like he will be out for the rest of the season.

“It is disappointing for him but we have Vlad and two young lads in Smith and (Dimitar) Evtimov who are keen to play.

“We will take a big squad down to London tonight and we will decide who will play in goal tomorrow.”

Henderson started the season as first choice under then manager Philippe Montanier before he was dropped and frozen out for a period. Since the early part of January he was been the number one stopper with the Reds once again, but this cruel injury blow means he’ll no doubt have a fight on his hands to win back his spot in the team when fit again. The fans’ favourite joined on a free transfer over the summer.
