Bristol City lead race to sign Burnley defender

Bristol City are leading the race to sign Burnley’s Tendayi Darikwa according to a report from Page 61 of The Sun.

The Robins have really struggled in recent weeks and after starting the season looking like they might be able to make a run for the Sky Bet Championship play-offs, they are now looking over their shoulder worried that they might end up in a battle against relegation.

Other than Lee Johnson, who has been under a lot of pressure due to this poor form, the thing that has been blamed for the bad results has been their defence which is why the club tried to sign reinforcements in this area during the January transfer window. They were able to complete a deal to sign Bailey Wright from Preston North End, but they also tried to sign Darikwa from Burnley but that transfer never materialised.

But even though the West Country club failed to sign Darikwa on their first attempt and aren’t sure what league they will be in next year, they are set to go in for him once again during the summer. The 25-year-old defender signed for Burnley back in 2015 and while he got plenty of time on the pitch in his first season at Turf Moor, he hasn’t been able to get a look in since their promotion with Matthew Lowton making the right back position his own over the last few months.

But this move will have to wait until the end of the season, with Bristol City’s main focus being their match against Leeds United tomorrow night.
