Ipswich Town goalscorer praises team after Villa victory

Ipswich Town matchwinner Emyr Huws had buckets of praise for the Tractor Boys’ determination after a 1-0 victory at Villa Park.

The Welshman tapped home David McGoldrick’s cross on 82 minutes to end the Blues’ four-game run without a victory.

Bart Bialkowski did well to keep the Blues level at the break as he expertly turned away a strike from Conor Hourihane that looked destined for the bottom corner.

Pressure continued from the hosts, with Steve Bruce’s side hitting the crossbar with a right-footed shot.

The Blues suffered injury blows as Steven Taylor and Christophe Berra were both forced off before the interval, leaving the back-line potentially vulnerable.

And it showed as Scott Hogan’s header was cleared off the line by McGoldrick late-on, but the Town striker worked his way down the left before picking out Huws with a cross and the on-loan striker found the net from point-blanch range to end Villa’s unbeaten home record this season.

“It was a really good win, and everyone is buzzing. It’s a good day at the office,” he told Ipswich Player HD.

“We soaked up a lot of pressure at the start of the game, and we were maybe a bit fortunate, but we stayed strong.

“Then we gradually got into the game and I thought we played well, dug deep and defended well.

“Fortunately we got the goal we wanted to get and saw out the game well.” the Blues goalscorer said.

“Everyone on the pitch put in a shift to keep a clean sheet. Especially coming to a place like this, it was a great performance.”
