Blackburn: hasty decision needed on Brazilian Mugni – Spanish side interested

Blackburn Rovers have two trialists at the club at the moment in Paul Caddis and Lucas Mugni, with both pushing for a contract. However, Blackburn will have to move fast on Brazilian Mugni, with reporter Alan Nixon saying on Twitter a “Spanish club” are interested.

Brazilian Mugni, who is a free agent after being released by Brazilian giants Flamengo in January, has been on trial at Rovers this week with the Lancashire Telegraph saying that the left-footed Argentinian “is understood to have impressed with his technical ability,” but there being doubts as to his fitness.

25-year-old Mugni, born in Santa Fé, Argentina, and who has dual Argentinian/Italy nationality, started out his career in his native Argentina with CA Colón before a near £1 million to Brazilian side Flamengo, for whom he made 30 appearances.

Goal-wise, the attacking midfielder scored twice (three assists) in the 30 appearances for the Brazilian top-tier side, a further six goals (three assists) for first side Colón.

However, as Nixon hints at above, a Spanish side are keeping tabs on the Argentinian who made his name in neighbouring Brazil. Spanish publication El Periódico de Aragón report that the side interested in bringing free agent Mugni onboard are La Liga 2 side  Real Zaragoza, who currently sit 12th in Spanish football’s second-tier competition.

The Spanish publication says that the Argentine was “one of the players that Zaragoza had on the table to sign” since the end of the winter transfer window that slammed shut on January 31.

Blackburn currently sit in the last relegation place in the Sky Bet Championship on 28 points, just three points away from safety. Today they face a travel to South Yorkshire to face basement side Rotherham in a game that they will be hoping to bring home three points from. A Blackburn win, couple with a Burton loss to second-placed Brighton, would see Rovers climb above the relegation places.
