Morecambe boss offers free pint and pie incentive for Cambridge clash

Morecambe’s match with Cambridge United tomorrow will see all fans receive a free pie and pint, courtesy of Shrimps boss Jim Bentley and Sky Bet.

In December, Morecambe manager Bentley was sent off in a 2-1 defeat to Cheltenham Town and, after a personal hearing, was fined £1000 and given a two match ban by the FA. The Morecambe faithful held a bucket collection in their win over Notts County last month and raised the full £1000 to re-pay their manager.

As a thank you, Jim Bentley, in association with Sky Bet, is offering all fans at Saturday’s game a free pie and pint. All fans, both Morecambe and the away support, will receive a voucher upon arrival which can be redeemed at the food counters around the ground.

The start of 2017 has been successful for the League Two club as Bentley’s side have gone undefeated since December. An away draw against league-leaders Doncaster Rovers was followed by victory against Leyton Orient on Tuesday and the Shrimps will look to find their second win of the month tomorrow against Cambridge.

The Us sit four points above Morecambe in 12th place but will be low on confidence after going five games without a win. In the reverse fixture, in September, goals from Jack Dunn and Paul Mullin secured a 2-1 away win for the Lancashire side. A win at the Globe Arena could see Bentley’s club move up to 15th in the League Two table and jump above Crawley Town and Yeovil Town. Morecambe are currently on 35 points
