Aston Villa boss Bruce thanks Tony Xia over vote of confidence

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has thanked club owner Dr Tony Xia for showing support towards him on Twitter.

The Chinese business tycoon tweeted “no more s**t rumours” following one fan’s revelation of a banner calling for Bruce’s sacking.

Villa take on mid-table rivals Ipswich Town on Saturday at Villa Park.

In Friday’s pre-match press conference, the manager was grateful for the vote of confidence given to him by Xia.

“I appreciate the owner’s support, that’s for sure.”, he told the Birmingham Mail.

“It’s been re-assuring and terrific of the owner to say these things.

“The one thing we do need at this club is that togetherness when you’re up against it.

“Everyone has realised the job we’ve taken on, even though, yes we would like it to instantly happen.”

Since their relegation from the top flight, Aston Villa have struggled to make an impression in the Championship.

After a disastrous start under Roberto Di Matteo, they are now in 13th place following a slight recovery with Bruce at the helm.

The West Midlands club are thirteen points off sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday, and a poor recent run of form has seen them remain winless since the turn of the year.

However, Bruce is not prepared to give up on the promotion chase just yet, despite his side’s lacklustre campaign so far.

“I won’t give up [on reaching the play-offs]. It’s not my nature to give up.

“A few years ago I sneaked into the play-offs after going unbeaten in the last 12 games [at Hull City].

“With that momentum you can then go on to win them.”
