FA reveal charges on the back of melee at Huddersfield versus Leeds

The Football Association has confirmed that both Huddersfield Town and Leeds United have been charged following the outbreak in the closing minutes of Sunday’s Sky Bet Championship encounter. In addition to this, both David Wagner and Garry Monk have been charged for their parts in the melee.

A late Michael Hefele goal saw the Terriers secured a 2-1 victory over their local rivals and fellow promotion contenders in a hotly contested match at the weekend. Huddersfield head coach Wagner then charged down the touchline to celebrate with his team. On his return, Leeds head coach Monk stepped in his line of direction, thus starting a big scramble in the dugout areas.

Both clubs have subsequently been charged with FA Rule E20 (A), which is a failure to ensure their players and/or officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour.

Wagner has been charged with two alleged breaches of Football Association rulings. Both revolve around FA Rule E3, and each surround improper conduct charges. Firstly, his behaviour in entering the field of play amounted to such an offence. Secondly, his behaviour upon his return to the vicinity of the technical area amounted to the same offence.

Finally, in the case of Monk, he too breached FA Rule E3 in that his behaviour resulted in an improper conduct charge.

Everyone concerned have until 6pm on February 10th to respond to such offences. There is every chance that both clubs will be issued with respective fines and warned to their future conduct, whilst both manager’s could be forced to serve touchline suspensions for some crucial upcoming matches.
