Blackburn Rovers set to snap up former Birmingham City defender

Blackburn Rovers are set to sign Paul Caddis on a free transfer according to a report from Page 53 of today’s The Sun.

The 28-year-old defender started the season as a Birmingham player but while he had been a regular in previous seasons, clocking up an impressive 160 appearances over the five years he was in the West Midlands, he didn’t make a single appearance this season. With that unlikely to change in the second half of the season, they decided to release Caddis before the transfer window closed so he could try to find a new team that would give him the first team football he needs.

And it appears that he may have found a new club as it has been reported that Blackburn are closing in on a deal to sign him. When they sold Ben Marshall to Wolves during the January transfer window, they lost a player that could play at right-back and now need to fill that spot. Even though Caddis had fallen out of favour at Birmingham, he could still be useful for Blackburn as they fight against relegation, especially as Caddis does experience of being at that end of the table.

Currently, Blackburn are 22nd in the Sky Bet Championship though they are just three points off 21st place Burton Albion. They are aiming to prevent a drop into Sky Bet League One but they will need to get more wins and they’ll have a chance to do exactly that when they have the six pointer against Rotherham United at the weekend.
