Swindon Town set to re-sign former star striker

The Swindon Advertiser reports that sources close to Charlton Athletic striker Nicky Ajose have revealed that the player is set to re-sign for Swindon Town. The 25-year-old made the move to The Valley over the summer for a fee in the region of £800,000, but has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Addicks starting eleven.

It is unsure at this stage if it would be a permanent or a loan move. Given the fact that Swindon already have five loan players at the club, and no more can be a part of any matchday squad, then it would appear Ajose is set for a sensational permanent return to the County Ground.

It was Russell Slade who signed the former Manchester United youngster over the summer, but he is no longer in charge. Former MK Dons boss Karl Robinson is now in charge and seems happy to let the player depart. Ajose has made 28 appearances for the club this season, although most of them have come from the bench. He has still netted seven goals, although it is only one goal in his last nine appearances.

Southend United and Bradford City had also been linked with the pacey striker. He last pulled on a Charlton shirt versus Bristol Rovers as a late substitute on January 2nd. Tim Sherwood and Luke Williams want to boost their attacking options with Swindon before tonight’s 11pm deadline if they can. The club are currently two points above the relegation places and have only scored 27 goals in Sky Bet League One this season so far. Last season, Ajose scored 25 for the club by himself.
