Norwich confirm new left back signing to replace the departed Robbie Brady

Norwich City have tonight completed the loan signing of Ajax left back Mitchell Dijks. He joins the Canaries for the remainder of the Sky Bet Championship season, although the club do retain the option to make his stay in East Anglia permanent.

The 23-year-old has found himself on the fringes of the starting eleven for the Dutch giants this season, leading to Dijks seeking first team football elsewhere. Alex Neil completed this signing around the time that Robbie Brady left the club in a big money move to Burnley.

Dijks, who previously played for Herenveen and Willem II did come through the ranks in the famed Ajax Academy before heading out for a few seasons. He returned to the Amsterdam ArenA for an undisclosed fee at the start of the 2015/16 campaign. Speaking on the news of his latest move, he expressed his excitement at moving to the club,

“I’m really excited, it’s a fantastic club with great people.

“I’m hungry to play. To get to the Premier League with Norwich, that’s my first goal and I’m excited to do that step.”

Manager Alex Neil believes this is a real statement of intent from the club, who have signed a player with UEFA Champions League experience,

“This is one where we’ve had to work hard to get it over the line but for us it’s a bit of a coup.

“He’s played Champions League football and he’s really highly thought of. He wasn’t playing this season at Ajax, and that gave us an opportunity.

“He’ll bring size and stature; he’s six feet four inches tall, strong and athletic. I think all of those qualities are certainly things that will add to the squad.”
