Hibees still hope for deal for Rovers striker

Scottish Championship leaders Hibernian are still hoping to bring Blackburn Rovers striker Anthony Stokes back to the club.

The Edinburgh Evening News have reported that the Sky Bet Championship strugglers have received at least two enquiries for the player’s services with Hibernian boss Neil Lennon being one of those believed to be pursuing the signing of Stokes.

Blackburn Rovers manager Owen Coyle has admitted that it would take a good offer to persuade the Lancashire club to part with the player however Hibernian fans remain hopeful that a deal to bring one of their Scottish Cup heroes back to Easter Road can be agreed.

With Stokes unlikely to be permitted to leave Ewood Park for anything less than a sizeable transfer fee, one option could be for Hibernian to make an offer to take the striker on loan for the remainder of the season. As the final hours of the transfer window tick away, a loan option could prove to be a quick solution if a deal cannot be thrashed out for a permanent transfer.

Stokes has previously enjoyed two spells with The Hibees with the player netting 24 goals in 48 appearances in his first period at Easter Road and nine goals in 25 appearances during a loan spell from Glasgow giants Celtic last season.

The striker scored two goals against Rangers in the 2016 Scottish Cup Final as Hibernian lifted the trophy for the first time in 114 years following a 3-2 success.
