Forest looking to sign former Leeds United winger

Nottingham Forest are looking to bring Chesterfield midfielder Gboly Ariyibi to the club before tonight’s 11pm deadline, according to Alan Nixon of The Sun.

The player has been with the Spirites since joining from Leeds United in 2014.

Sun correspondent Alan Nixon has reported on his personal Twitter account that the Reds are interested in the 22-year-old.

Ariyibi has been strongly linked with a move to the Championship in recent seasons.

He has been an important player for Chesterfield this season, having made 36 appearances and creating four goals in the process.

His preferred position in out on the right flank, but he is also comfortable sitting in the number 10 role behind the strikers.

The American-born winger began his career at Southampton.

He is a product of the Saints’ famous youth academy, but never made the step up to the senior team, and instead moved to Leeds United in 2013 in search of first-team football.

At Elland Road, however, he only managed two senior appearances, and was shipped out on loan to Tranmere Rovers during his stay in Yorkshire.

After failing to impress at Leeds he moved to current club Chesterfield on a free transfer in 2014, where he has established himself as one of the side’s most influential players.

The player has made 75 appearances for the Spirites since joining, finding the back of the net three times.

Nottingham Forest are also said to be in talks with Ipswich Town over a deadline day move for former captain Luke Chambers.

They take on Rotherham United this evening at the City Ground as they look to return to winning ways, following their defeat to Leeds United last time out.
