Hayes, Cardiff to admit defeat in chase for number one transfer window target

Cardiff to admit defeat in chase for number one transfer window target

The Daily Record reports that Aberdeen have rejected a third bid from Cardiff City for star player Jonny Hayes, a bid which is said to have angered the Scottish Premiership club. After two bids were rejected earlier in the window, a third bid of £600,000 has been rejected outright.

That third offer is said to have greatly annoyed the Scottish club as given the fact the South Wales club elected to wait so long to make a third bid. It is their feeling that Cardiff wanted to wait until nearer the end of the window in the hope that Aberdeen would be willing to sell, but Derek McInnes has always insisted the player won’t be allowed to leave this month.

With the transfer deadline closing at 11pm tonight, Cardiff look set to miss out on the player they have chased in this transfer window right from the very start. The 29-year-old midfielder produced a fine display on Friday night as Aberdeen continued their pursuit for second spot with a home victory against Dundee.

A source from inside the club has spoken out on the back of the £600k bid from Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds,

“If Cardiff thought they were being clever waiting for so long before coming in with a third bid then it has clearly backfired. All they have done is annoy Aberdeen by coming in so late with an offer which is not much better than the bids which have already been rejected.

“Unless something crazy happens in the last few hours of the window there will be no deal done.

“Cardiff clearly don’t have the desire or the cash to make a proper offer for a player who is of massive importance to what the manager is trying to achieve at Aberdeen.

“Derek wants to beat Rangers to second place in the league this season and keeping Jonny will be a vital part of that.”
