Bradford make double defender signing

Bradford City have tonight confirmed the signings of young defenders Jacob Hanson and Matt Penney, as announced by T&A reporter Simon Parker on Twitter and the club itself.

18-year-old Jacob Hanson has joined the Bantams for an undisclosed fee from neighbours Huddersfield. The player had been at the Terriers since the age of 13 but has tonight penned a contract with League One play-off pushers Bradford. Hanson can play in a number of positions and after starting life as an attacking player, he now plays his trade across the back line favouring a role at centre-back or right-back.

Penney, on the other hand, has tonight sealed a loan move to the Bantams from another Yorkshire club, Championship Sheffield Wednesday. The defender has been touted as one of Wednesday’s brightest prospects and will join up with the Bantams to gain some invaluable experience, acting mainly as cover for main choice left-back James Meredith. He has gone straight into the squad that faces Oxford in the rearranged Checkatrade Trophy match this evening.

Deadline Day has been a tense one for fans of the Bantams with Stuart McCall openly admitting that the club were still in for multiple new players.

Bantams fans shouldn’t switch off for the evening just yet and more faces coming in before the 11pm deadline are a real possibility. Another defender in Kevin Toner is believed to be on McCall’s radar to act as a replacement for Matt Kilgallon who looks to be out for the season following an injury sustained against Millwall last weekend.

Attacking options were always a priority coming into the window and this was emphasised even more following the departure of James Hanson to Sheffield United last week. With defensive recruits brought in, a striker will be pushed even further to the top of the agenda before the window slams shut.

The ongoing Charlie Wyke saga has continued with the striker today travelling to Bradford to discuss a potential move. The club was believed to have triggered a release clause of £250,000 over the weekend but things haven’t been that simple and fans will be hoping the club can pull something out of the bag by 11pm to provide them with the goals to solidify their play-off place and make a last push for the automatic promotion spots.

One eagle eyed fan spotted what seemed to be Wyke’s car parked outside Valley Parade earlier today.

The waiting game continues for the Bantams faithful over the next four hours and business is far from being finished at the Northern Commercials Stadium on this hectic deadline day.
