Aston Villa to make move for Crystal Palace winger

Aston Villa are set to make a move for Crystal Palace’s Lee Chung-Yong according to a report from the Birmingham Mail.

The 28-year-old winger made the move to Palace in the summer of 2015 from Bolton Wanderers and would go on to become a regular for the Eagles. However he has been one of the players who have suffered with the change of the management with new head coach Sam Allardyce deciding to drop the player and believing he is surplus to requirements.

He recently got a run in the first team thanks to a number of players being missing but with Jeffrey Schlupp joining the club from Leicester City and Wilfried Zaha returning from the African Cup of Nations following the Ivory Coast’s shock exit, Chung-Yong finds himself out on the fringes of the first team again and looks set to leave the club.

One of the many positions that Aston Villa have been trying to strengthen during this transfer window has been the left-wing slot but until now they have missed out on many of their targets. Now though as the transfer deadline closes in, Villa need a new winger and are now moving in on Chung-Yong. Villa head coach Steve Bruce has a good relationship with Allardyce and the club are hoping he can use that to try and secure a deal which will bring the South Korean to Villa Park. However they will have to do it quickly as the transfer window will close at 11pm tonight.
