Nigel Clough, Nigel Clough rejects Nottingham Forest manager offer

Nigel Clough rejects Nottingham Forest manager offer

Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough has rejected the opportunity to take over at Championship rivals Nottingham Forest, according to reports.

The 50-year-old took over at the East Midlands club in December 2015, and led the club to League One success at his first time of asking.

In 57 matches in charge of the Brewers, Clough has won 20, drawn 15 and lost the remaining 22 games.

Forest have been without a manager since Phillipe Montanier lost his job earlier this month. Following a proposed takeover of the club, former Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett was lined up to take up the vacant post.

The takeover of the club by American sports figure John Jay Moores didn’t surface, and Rowett rejected the opportunity to work under the current owner.

Nottingham Forest are struggling in the Sky Bet Championship this season, sitting in 19th place following Wednesday night’s 2-0 defeat away to promotion-chasing Leeds United at Elland Road.

Burton Albion are also at the wrong end of the table, securing just 28 points in 28 games and sitting one place below Forest, three points clear of Wigan Athletic in the final relegation spot.

On the pitch, the Reds have replaced Henri Lansbury, who joined Aston Villa this month, by signing Aaron Tshibola on loan until the end of the season.

The former Reading midfielder joins Forest from Lansbury’s new club, and is expected to feature in Tuesday night’s Championship clash against bottom-club Rotherham United at the City Ground.
