Coventry keeping close eye on Ipswich Town midfielder

Sky Bet League One side Coventry City are considering a late January move for veteran Ipswich midfielder Jonathan Douglas, according to the Coventry Telegraph.

The 35-year-old has been in and out of the side at Portman Road this season, and could be open to a move away from Suffolk in search of guaranteed first-team football.

Coventry boss Russell Slade is looking to add to his ranks in midfield before tomorrow’s 11pm deadline, with the recent departure of Chris McCann leaving the Sky Blues lacking quality in the middle of the park.

They also face the possibility of losing prospect Ben Stevenson before the end of the window, with Championship club Brentford said to be considering launching another bid after having two offers rejected earlier this month.

Douglas began his senior career at Blackburn Rovers in 2000, but during his five-year stint at Ewood Park he made just sixteen appearances and was shipped out on loan a number of times.

He then moved to Leeds United in 2005 where he established himself as a key member of the side, making close to 150 appearances in a white shirt, scoring seventeen times in the process.

After a spell at Swindon Town following his exit from the Yorkshire club, he sealed a move to Brentford in 2011 and was a staple in the side that gained promotion to the Championship in 2014.

During his four-year period at Griffin Park he made 169 appearances, before being snapped up by Ipswich in 2015.

The seasoned midfielder has also represented the Republic of Ireland on eight occasions.
