Ipswich: Who is Danny Rowe? A look at Town’s recent signing

Ipswich Town recently announced the signing of Danny Rowe from Macclesfield Town, but who is the latest addition to the Blues squad?

Rowe, 24-years-old, is one of a duo of footballing brothers. His brother, Tommy, is a defender who plays for Doncaster Rovers.

The speedy youngster began his career with Stockport County after failing to break into the Bolton Wanderers first team during his development time with the Trotters.

A four-season career with County saw them drop from League One into the Conference Premier in just four seasons – with consecutive relegations occurring in 2009-10 and 2010-11.

During Rowe’s four years at Edgeley Park, he amassed 56 appearances during which he netted just twice.

The next stop for the young winger was a move to Barrow in July 2012. Managed under then boss David Bayliss he made 38 appearances and scored five times but the Bluebirds were relegated to the second tier of non-league football.

Rowe signed for Macclesfield Town after impressing during a trial period in the 2013 pre-season. His highlight as a park of the Silkmen’s squad was on the 26th October when Rowe netted a hat-trick in the 7-0 triumph over Vauxhall Motors in an FA Cup Qualifying tie.

A short spell at AFC Fylde came in August 2014 but his time in West Lancashire ended quickly when he rejoined Macclesfield.

The winger made ten appearances in the final half of the season, with the Silkmen narrowly missing out on a play-off spot.

But the quick winger signed a new contract in June 2015 and went on to become a key player in the 2015-16 season. His impressive performances led to him being monitored by Derby County, Walsall, Port Vale and Barnett.

Mick McCarthy eventually won over the winger as Rowe signed a deal tying him to Portman Road until 2020, becoming McCarthy’s fourth January signing – with a deal for Steven Taylor set to be completed soon.
