Burton, Burton boss Clough refuses to rule out Forest job

Burton boss Clough refuses to rule out Forest job

Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough has refused to rule himself out of managing Nottingham Forest in the future, according to the Nottingham Post.

However, he insists he is fully committed to the job in hand at the Pirelli Stadium, despite being strongly linked with the Reds as a replacement for the recently departed Philippe Montanier.

Montanier was sacked earlier this month after a poor start to the season, and Clough has been among the names tipped for the hotseat at the City Ground.

Other potential candidates for the job include former Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett, and current caretaker manager Gary Brazil.

Speaking to the Burton Mail, Clough admitted he could follow in his father Brian’s footsteps and manage Forest at some point in the future.

“You never know, you never know in football. If you’d have said we’d be back at Burton at some point, having left a few years ago, you wouldn’t have believed that one.

“You never predict what’s going to happen in football. It’s very difficult, when you spend 18 years – I’m just over 50 years old so more than a third of my life – involved with a certain club. I’ve spent 11 with this one.

“Of course, it’s an easy link, and a logical one from lots of points of view. But we’re here, preparing for QPR on Saturday, trying to get players in.”

When quizzed regarding recent comments committing his immediate future to the Brewers, Clough replied: “Nothing’s changed in that at all, no.”

Burton have struggled to make an impression on the Championship in their debut season in the second tier; they currently sit in 22nd place in the table, level on points with Wigan who are a place above them.

The Brewers take on QPR away from home this weekend, as they look to return to winning ways following a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Cardiff City last time out.
