Birmingham City defender set to return to America

Birmingham City’s Jonathan Spector looks set to the club and return to the USA and play for Orlando City according to a report from Four Four Two journalist Paul Tenorio.

The 30-year-old defender was born in Arlington Heights, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, and ended up going through the youth system of the Chicago Fire. However he would never make a senior appearance for the MLS side as he was noticed by Manchester United and would head over the Atlantic to start his professional career.

However it seems like after 14 years of being away from the USA, Spector is about to wrap up a move that will take him back there as this report suggests that a deal is very close for him to join Orlando City. While he has been at St Andrews for six years now and still gets regular action in the first team, he has made 13 appearances this season though he was sent off against Bristol City, his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

And because they might end up losing him on a free at the end of the season, Birmingham’s head coach Gianfranco Zola has decided to grant his release early so Spector can join Orlando before the MLS season begins March.

While the city of Orlando is best known for being where Disneyworld is, it has recently gained an MLS side which is unafraid to make a splash as they currently have Brazilian legend Kaka on their books. A more familiar face for English fans though might be Seb Hines, who is a former Middlesbrough player.
