Blackpool sign Wigan Athletic forward on loan

Blackpool have signed Sanmi Odelusi on loan from Wigan Athletic as confirmed by the club website.

The 23-year-old forward, who can play up front and on the wing, signed for Wigan in 2015 following their relegation to Sky Bet League One. However this move hasn’t worked out for him as he only made four appearances for the Latics as they were promoted from this league and was largely frozen out of the first team.

And with promotion meaning that he was even more unlikely to break into the first team, Odelusi made the short trip to Rochdale to sign on loan for them in the first half of the season. But while he got more first team football as he made 19 appearances for them, he only scored once which was in the Checkatrade Trophy match against Notts County back in October. With more goals being expected from a forward, his loan was not renewed at Spotland.

And so now Odelusi will drop down to Sky Bet League Two and will play for the rest of the season at another one of Wigan’s neighboring teams, Blackpool. The Tangerines are currently stuck in mid-table in 12th place and will hope that Odelusi can help them challenge for the play-off spots.

After the signing was completed, Odelusi said: “I’m delighted to be making the move across here and trying to get a few games under my belt. I want to help the team progress up the league.”

“This is a new part of my career now that I’m heading into and hopefully this is going to be a good part of my career.”
